Another eventful year passes!
After almost ten years with Second Baptist Church, Dave is now the Head of Audio for The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The Hobby Center is one of Houston's premier theatrical venues located in the heart of the theater district. Hobby hosts a wide range of presentations from musical theater shows such as Spamalot or Jersey Boys, to fashion shows, to corporate events, to speaking engagements by the likes of Dame Julie Andrews and Diana Ross. In 2007 Dave also had the great pleasure of working with one of his favorite bands The Lost Dogs.
The audio mix for the video below was done by Dave when the Dogs played Second Baptist in July. This same video is featured on the band's official Myspace page.
Also keep an eye out for The Phlegmatics second album "Sophomore Effort" later this year. You can hear a few demos on the band's Myspace

Happy New Year from 2000 Projects!!
2005 finished out with a bang around here! 2000 Projects owner Dave Hartung was VERY busy overseeing the design and installation of a new sound system at Second Baptist Church's 5000 seat, in-the-round, West Campus. This amazing system includes 80 Meyer M1D self powered line array speakers complimented by 8 700-HP self-powered subwoofers. The FOH and Monitor consoles are both DiGiCo D5's outfitted with 112 inputs at the stage. Dave says: "The sound quality from this system is as good or better (mostly better) than any installed sound system in any room in the entire Houston area... church, theater, concert hall, whatever!"
Another project that kept Dave really busy in the last few months was sound design and implementation for Second Baptist Church's
Christmas Eve Service in Houston's 20,000 seat Toyota Center. The design included 4 DiGiCo D5's (2 FOH, 1 MON, 1 Broadcast), all on an Optocore optical loop, all capable of 168 inputs, and Electro-Voice X-Line, line arrays provided by LD Systems. The program included a 300 voice choir, 60 piece orchestra, Children's Worship team, and 15 featured vocalists including Grammy winner Yolanda Adams and country music star Clay Walker. Dave also operated one of the Front of House consoles for the service that was recorded for live broadcast on the Daystar cable network.
Meanwhile, back at the studio-
If all of the above wasn't enough to keep a guy busy, there were many recording sessions, including: Infinivox Audiobooks, Donna Fisher, Mike Van Hoozer, and Prince Sports (which included top tennis pro Liezel Huber).
Other important achievements-
Gristle completes vocal tracking and moves to the mixing phase.
Dave masters FeverDream recording artist Frank Hart's new album "Human Litergy"
2000 Projects recording artitists, The Phlegmatics, become Houston's Ultimate Geek Band by declaration of Houston's leading newspaper, The Houston Chronicle. New Phlegmatic's songs are being premiered every so often on the Chronicle's "Local Bands" site and the band's MySpace site (perhaps you've already heard "My Christmas Carol"?). The band recently released the following on The Chronicle's website:
"As we Phlegmatics sit here at the end of 2005 downing egg nog like it was lemonade, we look ahead (not back because that can often cause lead to traffic accidents and/or a sore neck) to 2006 and what promises this mysterious future time holds for us. One thing that will make 2006 bigger and better than 2005 is the fact that we're going to rehearse more often. Our previously demanding schedule of "whenever we felt like it" will simply not fly. This newfound work ethic is partially due to more free time as a result of our guitarist and vocalist Jonathan's graduation from college. And our bass player, Jonas, will actually learn how to play his instrument. Inspiration for new material in the form of romantic rejection, public humiliation, and physical imperfection is always popping up so our repertoire continues to grow, and this could possibly lead to the recording of a second album sometime in the latter part of 2006, but everyone should still be aware of our first release Alumnus which is still available for sale at our shows and on our website. The Phlegmatics want to take their newfound rehearsedness and envelope-pushing, freshly-laid songs beyond the rich atmosphere of planet earth -- I mean Houston -- and travel to far off galaxies and places like Planet Austin and Planet Dallas. If we can actually create a machine that will exceed the speed of light, we might even attempt a summer tour. Being the needy, insecure miscreants that we are, we crave human praise and adulation, and we particularly look for this in the form of an invitation to SXSW and a victory at this summer's Houston Press Music Awards although this will still pale in comparison to being named "Ultimate Geek Band." It's pretty much all downhill after that."
What will 2006 hold for 2000 Projects? Well, it's too early to know very much, but a few things are already on the books, such as participating as a mentor in the Get A Mentor program, recording sessions with clients new and old, and more major equipment installs and large arena shows.

2000 Projects Owner Dave Hartung Closes Deal To Manage The Phlegmatics!
"I think it is a very advantageous situation for both of us" says Dave. "We share many views, both in business and creativity." Hartung was the producer of the band's debut album "Alumnus", released earlier this year on Pretty Good Records (a joint venture between Dave and guitarist Jonathan Marshall). Of the new business situation Jonathan said: "When I left you I was but the learner, now I Am The Master!" To which Dave responds: "Only a Master of Evil Jon.... (sigh)."

It's like DeJavu all over again here at 2000 Projects.
The Phlegmatics have the uncanny ability to draw great vintage gear like a magnet! We're currently recording guitar parts on a 1967 Gibson Les Paul goldtop. This beauty was used by our good friend and collegue Micheal Morgan on a host of different recordings throughout the years, including the sound track for the James Bond film "The Man With The Golden Gun" (Micheal can be heard playing the classic Bond riff on this very guitar!). Big thanks from all of us to Mike for trusting us with his baby!
We also want to take this opportunity to welcome Gristle to 2000 Projects. Gristle is comprised of former Galactic Cowboy Ben Huggins, Len Sonnier (formerly of Atomic Opera and The Sonnier Brothers Band), Shane Huggins (Ben's son) and Chad Lyons (Poundhound, Sonnier Brothers). The band has been recording vocals here for their long awaited first album which should be available later this year. 2000 Projects is pleased to be working with Ben, our long time buddy and we can't wait for this next step in his musical career!
The recent Engine Room show was a lot of fun. Both The Phlegmatics and Gristle promise more shows soon so keep watching this space for more information.
May 1, 2004 -
This month, 2000 Projects artist Reagan Harper will be performing with up and coming artist Jeremy John. Reagan says: "His vocal skills and songwriting ability put him in a league of his own. He recently released his second album, Common. Deep felt lyrics and uniquely styled music will draw you into a heart of worship." Jeremy sings two duets with Reagan on her own recently released album. You can see them Friday, May 14, 7-9pm at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church - Houston, Sams Cafe, Singles Dinner & Worship event. CDs will be available for purchase. Also on Sunday, May 16 or May 23, 11:05 am, at First Presbyterian - Houston.
Work continues on The Phlegmatics album. Last week we finished bass tracks using a beautiful American made Fender Precision bass loaned to us by Atomic Opera member Ryan Birsinger. This week we begin tracking guitars using a sweet vintage 70's era Marshall 100 watt Super Lead from Marshall's Music. The bill for The May 12th Phlegs show at The Engine Room has grown to include: Travisty Theory, Rocket Science, House of Moist. and of course, Galactic Cowboy Ben Huggins' new band, Gristle. Tickets are $5 and Doors are at 7p. Thats only $1 a band!
March 28, 2004 -
2000 Projects Artist Reagan Harper's self-titled debut album will be available beginning April 1st! Work is rapidly progressing on the next 2000 Projects release by The Phlegmatics! This power-punk-pop band features Jonathan and Ethan Marshall (sons of Dave Marshall, lead guitarist for the legendary Christian progressive rock band Arkangel), Jonas Velasco (who along with Jonathan was a member of Atomic Opera), and Brad Colvis. Their as yet untitled album will be available later this summer. Look for them in concert at the Engine Room in Houston on May 12th. Sharing the bill will be former Galactic Cowboy Ben Huggins and his new band Gristle.
